Carrie Hillebrandt, M.S., LIMHP; Director of Operations – Carrie completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice, with a  Master’s of Science in Counseling at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, in Omaha, Nebraska. Carrie has over 15 years experience with children and families, in a number of different environments. She has worked as a Youth Care Worker and as a Supervisor of an out of home placement for boys. Carrie also has provided intensive case management, to children and families involved with Child Protective Services. Additional experience includes, leading groups at an intensive outpatient program, for children, presented with mental health, behavioral, and/or addiction issues. Her interests include children, adolescents, families and adults, who have encountered various issues and life concerns. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Motivational Interviewing to help promote change and improve quality of life around the client.

Full-time Therapists

Janelle Simms, M.S., LIMHP; Licensed Mental Health Therapist – Janelle completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Human Resources Management, and her Master’s of Human Services at Bellevue University. She began her career as a child care provider, eventually becoming a foster parent. While attending school, she worked as a foster care specialist. Once graduated, she was promoted to Program Director at a foster care agency. At that time, Janelle decided to become a Licensed Mental Health Therapist. Janelle received her certification from Bellevue University in life coaching. Most recently, she supervised group homes for a local agency, which specialized in rehabilitation for individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Janelle is a native of Omaha and aspires to be a change agent in the community to help families succeed. Janelle uses Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.

Steve Wendell, M.S., LMHP; Licensed Mental Health Therapist – Steve graduated in 1995 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a Master’s of Arts degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis on counseling. He has worked with adults, adolescents and children. He has spent the majority of his career serving a wide range of mental health disorders, ranging from ADHD to Schizophrenia and Dissociative Disorder. Steve takes a flexible approach to his diverse clients, tailoring sessions to meet their individual needs. Steve is also certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).  He sees the majority of his clients in their homes, but will meet you in the office if you prefer. Steve is a US Army veteran, including a 3-year tour in Germany, where among other things he was Army Community Services Officer of Goeppingen Military Community, and served as a member of the Child Protection Case Management Team. He worked his way through graduate school as a Correctional Officer, Housing Unit Supervisor, and Mental Health Counselor in the Nebraska Department of Corrections. Steve has additional interests in career counseling and the psychology of Internet and video game use.

Andrea Joyce, M.S., LIMHP; Licensed Mental Health Therapist –  Andrea comes to Hill Counseling with nearly 20 years experience working with children, adolescents and families through direct care work, teaching and individual, family, couples and group counseling.  She is also certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).  Andrea graduated, with honors, obtaining her MS in Community Counseling at The University of Nebraska-Omaha in May, 2004.  In addition, Andrea has extensive experience with public speaking, giving presentations, training and teaching.

Sam Burns, M.S., LIMHP; Licensed Mental Health Therapist –  Sam received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his Master’s of Science degree in Community Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2012. While in school, Sam began his work with children at Boystown Residential Treatment Center, working directly with children experiencing significant behavior and conduct challenges, as well as their families.  Sam has worked in the Omaha community, providing rehabilitation services to adults experiencing severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Sam’s work with children and families also includes individual, couples, and family therapy in a private practice setting in the Omaha area.  Most recently, Sam has worked in the Denver area at a youth and adolescent treatment center, specifically designed to provide therapeutic services and crisis intervention to suicidal and at risk youth. Sam also worked in a group private practice setting in Denver, providing both office based and in-home individual, couples, and family therapy, with a focus on providing support to individuals on the Autism Spectrum as well as those with developmental disabilities. Sam’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, utilizing Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution and Client focused approaches depending on the individual needs of his clients.


Part-time Therapists

Ann Holmstrom MSW, LMHP; Licensed Mental Health Therapist – Ann completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work at Dana College, in Blair NE, and her Master’s of Social Work at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Ann has more than 12 years of experience as a therapist, working with children, teens and families in the Omaha area. She uses a Cognitive Behavioral model, and focuses on building on the strengths of her clients.

Jerry Vobejda, M.S., LMHP; Director of Outpatient Services – Jerry completed his Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1995, and his Master’s of Science in Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2005. Jerry has extensive experience working with teens/pre-teens and their families, struggling with a variety of issues, from grief and abandonment to oppositional defiance and conduct disorder. Jerry brings a multi-faceted perspective to working with this population, as he has professional experience with inpatient direct care, case management, as well as outpatient therapy. He uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused and Motivational Interviewing while always stressing the importance of building relationships between client and therapist, based on trust, mutual respect, and unconditional positive regard.

Joseph C. Stankus, Ph.D – is a Clinical Psychologist and President of Stankus Psychological Services, P.C.  Licensed and certified, Dr. Stankus has over 32 years experience in the mental health field, including 13 years of his former 20- year-career as an  active-duty officer in the U.S. Air Force. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. Eclectic in approach, he uses a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, including cognitive therapy, behavior-modification, and clinical hypnosis. Dr. Stankus has extensive experience in conducting psychological evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults, completing literally hundreds of the on patients from all walks of life. He has performed psychological assessments for a wide diversity of reasons, including assisting with differential diagnosis, behavior problems, difficulties at school, marital and family conflict, parenting capabilities, custody evaluations,  district and juvenile courts,  defense attorneys,  fitness for duty, screening for employment, competency, bariatric surgery, and many other purposes. In both his therapeutic and evaluative endeavors, and indeed in all of his work,  Dr. Stankus is holistic in orientation, helping the patient to integrate body, mind, and spirit to transform his/her crisis into an  opportunity for growth.

RoxAnn Worley, LMHP; Licensed Mental Health Therapist – completed her Bachelors Degree at The University of Nebraska – Kearney and Graduate Degree at The University of Nebraska – Lincoln.  RoxAnn completed her Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  RoxAnn’s career has included Training Officer at the Lincoln Regional Center, Program Specialist at the Nebraska Department of Public Institutions, Community Health Educator at the Nebraska Department of Health, Drug Prevention Specialist at Millard Public Schools, Middle School Counselor at Milliard Public Schools, Family Therapist at Samaritan Counseling of the Midlands, and Elementary School Counselor at Millard Public Schools.  At Hill Counseling, RoxAnn uses her education, work, spiritual and parenting experience to provide Therapeutic Supervised Visitation to families we serve.
